MC Authority - MC#

If you plan on transporting freight FOR-HIRE across state lines, you’ll need to obtain your Motor Carrier Interstate operating authority (MC#).

Unlike the USDOT Number, this requires a non-refundable fee of $300 to be paid to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) a $50.00 service fee will be applied for obtaining.

When operating, it’s mandatory to display both your USDOT number and MC number on the side of your vehicle.

After obtaining your MC#, there are a few additional steps you must take to activate it before you can start operating.

  1. Register with a BOC-3 Process Agent ( BOC-3 page)
  2. Submit proof of commercial insurance on file (insurance provider will submit)
